Let's unravel the mystique of science!

What is PINT OF SCIENCE? PINT OF SCIENCE is a scientific festival that aims to popularize science and make it more understandable. By inviting researchers and breaking down laboratory walls, it tries to bring the latest research results closer to us, in a pleasant, direct atmosphere, in the atmosphere of a café or pub. Who do we recommend it to? Everyone! No prior knowledge or qualifications are required to visit the festival. Our concept is to invite researchers from as many fields as possible, so it is almost impossible to have some prior qualification in every topic. When and where should we meet? The global festival, which is organized all over the world, usually falls in mid-May, always on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. In 2025, we will hold the festival in Budapest between May 19-21. The exact location of the festival is still under organization.

The PINT OF SCIENCE festival aims to bring science closer to the public through interesting, entertaining presentations – all in a relaxed, fun atmosphere! We want to provide a platform that allows people to discuss research with those who are doing it. A team of volunteers, postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers set up the community in 2012.

The main festival is held annually over three days in May, simultaneously in cafes and bars around the world. Story In 2012, Dr Michael Motskin and Dr Praveen Paul were two researchers at Imperial College London. They initiated an event called “Meet the Researchers” that brought people with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis into their labs to show them the research they were doing. This was inspiring for both visitors and researchers. The two researchers then thought that if people were willing to come into the labs to meet researchers, why not bring the scientists out to the public?

And so PINT OF SCIENCE was born. In May 2013, they held their first festival, bringing together the biggest names in their fields to explain their groundbreaking work to science and beer lovers. Of course, it was a fantastic success!

May 2023

PINT OF SCIENCE was held in Hungary for the second time in 2023. This time, we held the festival at two locations in Budapest: the Hoff House hosted the first day, while the Three Ravens hosted us on the second and third days.

May 2024

In 2024, we organized PINT OF SCIENCE in Hungary again. We held two Hungarian-language days at the Stex House, and then closed the festival with an English-language day at the Hoff House, which has almost become our regular venue. Our photographer was Tamás Tóth.
