PINT OF SCIENCE

The PINT OF SCIENCE festival aims to bring science closer to the public through interesting, entertaining presentations – all in a relaxed atmosphere! We want to provide a platform that allows people to discuss research with those who are doing it. A team of volunteers, postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers created the community in 2012. The main festival is held annually for three days in May, simultaneously in cafes and bars around the world.

History

In 2012, Dr. Michael Motskin and Dr. Praveen Paul were two researchers at Imperial College London. They initiated an event called “Meet the Researchers,” which brought people with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, motor neurone disease, and multiple sclerosis into their labs to show them the research they were doing. It was inspiring for both visitors and researchers.

The two researchers then thought that if people were willing to come into the labs to meet researchers, why not bring the scientists out to the public? And so PINT OF SCIENCE was born. In May 2013, they held their first festival, bringing together the biggest names in their field to explain their groundbreaking work to science and beer lovers. Of course, it was a fantastic success!

May 2023

PINT OF SCIENCE was held in Hungary for the second time in 2023. This time, we held the festival at two locations in Budapest: the Hoff House hosted the first day, while the Három Holló hosted us on the second and third days.

May 2024

In 2024, we organized PINT OF SCIENCE in Hungary again. We held two Hungarian-language days at the Stex House, and then closed the festival with an English-language day at the Hoff House, which has almost become our regular venue. Our photographer was Tamás Tóth.
